a pitch - when you try to convince somebody to do something or to give you something (esp. to make them buy something from you, invest in your idea, support you, etc.)

 

 

 

 

  • a sales pitch

  • an elevator pitch

  • He tried his sales pitch on me on the phone about the quality and durability of their product.

  • A classic example of a pitch is what people do on the TV show "Dragons' Den" (UK version:

to pitch (this word is also a verb)

  • to pitch an idea to somebody

  • to pitch for funds/capital/investment/support/business (try to persuade someone to provide you that)
